Red Sox pitcher Junichi Tazawa started off by hitting Detroit's Miguel Cabrera in the hand, which I think was more caused by Cabrera leaning into the pitch as he went to swing.
Detroit pitcher Rick Porcello then followed up in the bottom of the first by throwing high and tight to the Red Sox' Victor Martinez, narrowly missing him. Porcello followed that up in the bottom of the second inning by firing one it at Youkilis and nailing him right in the back. Youkilis, who is somewhat ill-tempered, took exception and charged the mound...and a bench clearing brawl ensued.
